Does your small dog bark at everything? Panic when you leave? Explode at the end of the leash?
Guard you, their food, or their space? Fight you during grooming or vet visits?
Maybe you've already tried obedience classes, treats, different harnesses, or advice
from friends—and you're still asking yourself:
“Why is my dog doing this?”
You don't need another quick fix. You need to understand what is driving the behavior. Small dogs often view the world from a uniquely vulnerable position. What may seem like stubbornness, aggression, or “bad behavior” could actually stem from fear, stress, frustration, or simply a lack of coping skills. These issues can also arise from environmental overload or a dog that doesn't know what else to do.
That’s where our 3B System for small dogs—Biome, Boundary & Bridge—comes into play.
We delve deeper beneath the reaction to understand the whole dog, identifying what contributes to their behavior. Our behavior modification for dogs aims to create the structure your dog needs while building a clearer connection between you and your furry friend. This approach transcends merely teaching your dog to obey; instead, we focus on achieving calmer responses, better recovery, greater confidence, and the ability to navigate everyday life without living on edge. Explore our dog training services to discover more about how the 3B System can help transform your dog's behavior.

Behavior may be influenced by temperament, genetics, learning history, environment, stress, reinforcement, development, physical factors, and the dog's individual experiences. We don't automatically label a behavior as a personality trait. Behavior is information. Our job is to understand the information before deciding how to respond.
It can, depending on the individual dog and situation. Small dogs are easy to carry, physically remove, rescue, or excuse because of their size. Sometimes these responses are necessary. Other times, they can unintentionally prevent a dog from learning how to cope with manageable situations. Our goal is not to force the dog into overwhelming situations. It is to help the dog develop appropriate skills, confidence, communication, and self-regulation at a level they can handle.
Behavior doesn't happen in a vacuum. The same dog may behave completely differently at home, on a sidewalk, at the groomer, at the veterinarian, around unfamiliar dogs, or when visitors enter the house. We evaluate the dog and the environment together because changing the environment or management strategy can sometimes be an important part of changing behavior.
Because we don't believe every puppy should receive the same program.
A behavior that looks similar on the surface can have very different contributing factors. For example, barking may involve fear, frustration, arousal, territorial behavior, learned reinforcement, or multiple factors. We assess first so we can recommend support based on your actual situation.
No. Early intervention can be extremely valuable. A small dog who is beginning to develop barking, biting, handling problems, crate struggles, or inability to settle may benefit from addressing those patterns before they become more established. You don't have to wait until the problem becomes severe.
We will work with your dog—but we also work with you. Your small dog lives in your home, interacts with your family, and experiences the world with you. If the dog behaves beautifully with a trainer but the owner doesn't understand how to continue the work, the change may not transfer successfully to everyday life. Our goal is not to make your puppy dependent on the trainer. Our goal is to make you more capable of helping your puppy.
There is no universal timeline. Behavior is influenced by learning history, temperament, environment, stress, consistency, reinforcement, development, and many other factors. Some dogs show meaningful changes quickly. Others require a longer process. We focus on progress, functional behavior, and skill development, rather than promising a predetermined timeline.
